The Geek-Art of Eva Vilhelmiina Eskelinen

Eva Vilhelmiina Eskelinen comes from Helsinki, in Finland. She must live near from the Wall, because she draws a lot about Game of Thrones. But her Zelda art is quite nice too ! I really like the way she works, and you should definitly visit her website with lots of Norse Mythology designs. More great artworks in the full article !

Journey.

I was going to post this piece of concept art a few days ago and ask what you think is happening.. why the redcloak gets darker with every new pattern. Turns out it’s not as mysterious as I thought. See, it’s like aging. The more experience one gets, the older he becomes, but one can only make it through so many lives. Eventually his soul gets tired and, voila, all of the knowledge he gathered results in transcendence.

Whoops where did these tears suddenly come from?

Welp, it’s that time again.  Time to put another beloved costume of mine up for sale to pay for rent and cat food (and people food too, I guess). :(

This is my White Cloak/White Wanderer costume from the beautiful video game Journey.  I made this to wear at PAX East and managed to get some beautiful photos of it on the beach with friends, which were subsequently featured on Kotaku and MTV Geek!

Costume includes cloak, hood (with attached mask), and glyph scarf.  My asking price is $150, and I can ship it in time for Halloween!  If you are interested, please leave a message in my “Ask Me Stuff” box!  And if you know someone who might be, kindly pass the word along. :)

Okay that took forever, I’m sorry. Here’s the tutorial on how I made my Journey costume! I’ve included a photoset of the tutorial, and below are the links that will take you to the tutorial PDF and the pattern PDF (the first is primed for 8.5 x 11, the second is a 24 x 36 file, so happy print tiling!). For Illustrator-savvy folks, you can also dive into the pattern files and manipulate them yourselves.

Side note: I am not a professional seamstress/fashion designer, so I’m sorry if there’s inaccuracies or errors or dubious advice, it’s more of a step by step of how I did it with helpful patterns!

If any of the links expire, someone tell me via the Ask box. Any questions, use the Ask box, also! I’m happy to offer any help or advice! And I’m sorry, but I do not take commissions!

Tina wrote up an awesome tutorial for making a Journey costume like ours!  Reblog so we can fill the world with happy little cloaked wanderers. <3

Boston is definitely not a desert. Here’s some shots our friend Adam got of me and Ambrosiakrys in our Journey costumes! We had a blast in them, got a lot of loooove and inspired quite a few people to check out this amazing game! We’ll do a proper shoot somewhere less…urban.

I’m gonna vector up my patterns and write up the tutorial during this week! Gotta recover form PAX East, phew

Reposting the Journey costumes Tina and I made for PAX East! I can’t wait to expand my glyphs and take photos in some sand dunes, derp derp. Big thanks to Adam for the photos!
