Been so busy with moving, work, and Dragon*Con prep, that I forgot to post the MST3K vintage tribute dresses that my friend M. Alice LeGrow and I made for SDCC! She’s Joel (with a Servo fascinator) and I’m Mike (with a Crow fascinator). Our belts are custom-made, mine with the theater silhouette and hers with the Gizmonic Institute logo, though you can’t see it in these shots. We put elements of our favorite episodes on our purses, and even brought Gypsy along for the ride!
I’m bringing my Mike dress to D*C in two weeks, so if you see me, be sure to shout “ROBOT ROLL CALL”, “Rowsdower”, or one of Captain Ryder’s many names in my general direction.
So, here’s a nice story from SDCC 2012!
Last year at Comic Con, a friend of mine intercepted Matt and Karen at our hotel, but I eating lunch down the street and never had the chance to meet up with them. This year, I managed to make it into the Doctor Who Tumblr meetup, but left before the cast arrived. I gave up entirely on attempting the Hall H panel or autograph sessions, since the lines were astronomical. One night, I went to bed early from jet lag and slept right through a phone call at 2:30am. When I woke up the next day, I found out that the call was from my friend, who was trying to wake me up because Matt and Arthur were partying in his hotel room all night. So yeah. I apparently don’t have the best of luck when it comes to this cast.
However, through all my failed attempts to intercept him for the past two years and give him a friendly bro-pound, Matt Smith was still kind enough to take the time out of his night of partying and write me this amazing note! I hope the third time’s the charm, and next year, I can thank him in person!
tl;dr - Matt Smith is a cool guy who felt bad that I missed out on meeting him and wrote me an intoxicated love letter. The end.
All finished with my vintage MST3K tribute dress! Mine is Mike/Crow themed, and my buddy Marty’s will be Joel/Servo themed! My skirt is gigantic and so much fun to sashay around in. I am SO EXCITED to wear these together at San Diego Comic Con, they’ve been a crazy idea of mine for years and I’m so happy we were finally able to make them together! If you see us walking around the con floor, please say hi! :)
